Themes

A theme is your site's design. Website → Themes shows:

  • Live theme: the one visitors see. Customize it or View site.
  • Theme library: themes you've added but not published. Preview and Customize them without changing your live site, then Publish when you're ready.
  • Mattersimple themes: free themes made by Mattersimple, such as Counsel and Vesper. Add one to your library to try it.

Every firm starts on Counsel.

Publishing a theme

Publish makes a theme live. Your current live theme moves to the library, so you can switch back. Your pages, practice areas, team, blog and office details carry over: only the design changes. The theme's colours also become your firm's brand colours, used in emails and the client portal.

Managing themes

Each library theme's ⋯ menu offers Rename (only your team sees the name), Duplicate, Download theme file, Upload new version and Delete. Deleting removes the theme and its customizations: download it first if you might need it again.

Custom themes

A developer can build a theme for you. Upload it with Upload a theme, or they can send it with Mattersimple's theme tools (Developer tools → Developer access). Uploading a new version keeps your customizations unless you tick Also replace pages and settings with the file's. For your clients' safety, JavaScript inside uploaded themes doesn't run yet; layouts, styles and sections work as usual.

Developers: see the theme developer docs.
