Privacy and deleting your firm
Firm settings → Privacy covers your clients' data and your firm's own.
Your clients' data
Your firm is the controller of your clients' personal data: you decide what's kept and answer their requests. When a client with a portal account asks for a copy of their data or to be erased, use Portal accounts. See Client data requests.
Data Processing Agreement
If Mattersimple has published a Data Processing Agreement, it's on this page with the list of Sub-processors. It sets out how Mattersimple handles your clients' data on your behalf. Accepting it is optional, and is a record for your files, for example when your law society or state bar asks how you vetted your software.
- Click Review and accept to read it.
- Click Accept on behalf of your firm.
Only the firm owner can accept. The page then shows the date you accepted. When a new version is published, the page says A new version is available and you can accept it again.
Deleting your firm
Only the firm owner can delete the firm.
- Under Delete firm, type your firm's name and your password.
- Click Delete firm and confirm.
Your firm goes offline straight away and is permanently erased after 30 days, with every contact, matter, invoice, payment record and file. Until then you can click Cancel deletion to keep it. Make sure you've received all your Stripe payouts and exported your firm's data first.
A firm scheduled for deletion can't go live.
