Roles and permissions
A role decides what a member can do in your firm. Each member has one role. Manage roles under Firm settings → Roles & permissions; you need the Manage roles permission.
The owner
The person who created the firm is its owner. The owner's role, Owner, has every permission and can't be changed or deleted, and the owner always passes every check, even for permissions they haven't been given elsewhere. Only the owner can delete the firm.
Create a role
- Click Add role.
- Give it a Name, such as "Associate" or "Billing".
- Tick the permissions it grants (Select all ticks everything).
- Save, then give it to members on the Team page.

What every member can do
Without any permission, a member can still add and edit contacts, see the matters they're on or that are shared with them, work on the matters they're assigned to (notes, documents, time, tasks and events), and manage their own tasks and events.
Permissions and your plan
Some permissions need a plan feature: the website permissions need the website, Manage blog the blog, Manage portal accounts the client portal, and Run conflict checks conflict checks. Without the feature, nobody has the permission, not even the owner.
