Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication asks for a code from an app on your phone each time you sign in, so a stolen password alone isn't enough to get into your firm's client data. We strongly recommend it.

To turn it on:

  1. Open My account → Security.
  2. Click Set up two-factor authentication and confirm with your password.
  3. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, 1Password or Authy), or type in the setup key.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and click Confirm and turn on.
  5. Save the recovery codes somewhere safe. Each one works once if you lose your phone, and they aren't shown again. You can create New recovery codes at any time.

From then on, after your password you'll be asked for an authentication code from the app, or a recovery code.

To turn it off, click Turn off in the same place.

Requiring two-factor for your whole firm

Someone with the Update firm settings permission can make two-factor authentication mandatory: open Firm settings → General and, under Security, turn on Require two-factor authentication.

From then on, anyone in the firm without two-factor, the owner included, is taken to My account → Security when they open any other page, with a notice saying the firm requires it. They can still read notifications and contact support. Once they've set it up, everything works as usual. If someone turns two-factor off while it's required, they're asked to set it up again straight away.
