Document requests
Ask a client to upload a file through the portal, such as a passport copy, a signed form or a bank statement. Requests need the client portal on and a client whose access isn't revoked.
Request a document
- Open the contact's Requests tab and click Request a document.
- Fill in What do you need? (for example "Passport copy"), any Instructions, an optional Due date, and optionally the Matter it's for.
- Click Send request.
The client is emailed and sees the request in their portal. A request on a matter follows that matter: the people who can see and edit the matter see and manage it.
When the client uploads
The client uploads 1 to 5 files (PDF, JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, Word, Excel or text) and sends them for review. You, and the matter's responsible lawyer, are notified, and the dashboard counts Client uploads to review.
On the contact's Requests tab, review the files and choose:
- Accept: the request is done. The client is told there's nothing more to do.
- Reject: explain what needs to change. The client sees your reason and can upload again.
Each upload is kept as a numbered submission, so you can see everything the client sent.
Request statuses
Requested (nothing uploaded yet), Submitted (waiting for your review), Accepted or Rejected. Requests past their due date are marked Overdue.
Cancel a request
Click Cancel request to withdraw it. The client no longer sees it, and files they uploaded stay with you. An accepted request can't be cancelled.
