Adding people and companies
Contacts & Clients is your firm's address book: the people and companies you deal with, whether they're clients, opposing parties, witnesses, experts or anyone else. Everyone on your team can add and edit contacts.
Add a contact
- Open Contacts & Clients and click Add contact.
- Choose the Contact type: Person or Company.
- Fill in the details. The form shows one part at a time: step through them with Next and Back, or pick a part from the list on the left.
- A person has a prefix, first, middle and last name, and a date of birth. A company has a company name and a website.
- Email addresses: at least one. Mark one as Primary: it's the address shown in lists, and the one clients use to sign in to the client portal.
- Phone numbers: optional. You can mark one as primary.
- Address: street, city, state or region, zip or postal code and country.
- ID verified on: the date you checked this contact's identity. See Clients and ID verification.
- Custom fields, if your firm has added any for contacts. See Custom fields.
- Click Add contact, at the top or at the end of the last part. When editing a contact, the button is Save.
Link a person to their company
A person can belong to one company. In the person's Company field, search for the company. If it isn't in your contacts yet, click New company: it's added to your contacts and linked to the person without losing anything you've typed.
The company's page then lists its People.
Find a contact
The contacts list has a search box (name or email) and filters: All, People or Companies, Clients only, and Needs ID check. Clients are marked Client in the list.
