Refunds, voids and cancelling
Refund a payment
- On the invoice's Payments list, click Refund on the payment.
- Enter the amount to refund (all or part of it) and a Note explaining why. The note stays inside your firm.
- Leave Email the client about this refund ticked to tell them, or untick it.
- Click Refund payment.
An online payment is refunded to the client's card through Stripe. A manual payment's refund is only recorded: pay the money back yourself. If a payment from before the online payment fee was retired carries a fee, the matching share of the fee is refunded too.
Void a payment
If a manual payment was recorded by mistake, click Void, give a Reason and confirm. Only manual payments without refunds can be voided; online payments are refunded instead.
Cancel an invoice
Choose Cancel invoice on an invoice that isn't paid and has no payments. If Mattersimple emailed the invoice to the client, they're emailed that it's been cancelled. The invoice's time and expense entries can then be billed on another invoice.
Disputes
If a client disputes an online payment with their card issuer, the payment is marked The client disputed this payment. Respond to the dispute in Stripe.
